\"ROBIN-REPORT-SHOPTALK\"Anil Aggarwal, who founded Shoptalk along with Jonathan Weiner, is bringing together what he calls the “commerce community” — including established retailers and brands as well as entrepreneurs and investors. ShopTalk is a truly an unprecedented three-day conversation, May 15-18 in Las Vegas, that removes the silos and spans all of the ways that consumers discover, shop and buy any product, service or experience. It seems incredibly obvious that in today’s complex retail world we need a conversation that’s all-inclusive and encompassing to figure out the path forward. Nonetheless, Shoptalk is the first to bring a 360-perspective to us.

For its inaugural event, Shoptalk is offering over 100 sessions showcasing 225+ preeminent speakers, including 125 CEOs. The agenda (click here for agenda) highlights key trends impacting commerce today, including threats from new competition and changing consumer demands. These challenges are only exacerbated for traditional retailers who are saddled by legacy systems and business models from the industrial age.

I wrote about distributive commerce in “The New Rules of Retail,” co-authored with Michael Dart. In this warp speed world where new technologies and millions of new apps appear daily, preemptive distribution, or distributive commerce, removes the friction associated with retail destinations and traditional POS or EPOS, allowing a consumer to buy any product, at anytime, anywhere.

We are very eager to hear Shoptalk’s session, Preparing for Distributed Commerce, with Neil Ackerman, Director Global eCommerce at Mondelez International. Ackerman just arrived at Mondelez after a few years at Amazon, where he won numerous patent inventor awards and led the team responsible for innovations and inventions in fulfillment (FBA, or Fulfillment by Amazon). In addition to Ackerman, Sid Jatia, VP Omnichannel Digital at Under Armour, who is at the vanguard of commerce and fitness platforms: Joe Megibow, who recently joined Joyus as President following a three-year stink at American Eagle Outfitters as Chief Digital Officer; and Ryan Ross, EVP Marketing & Digital Commerce HSN round out the panel. This should be a powerhouse of a conversation, with more than a few takeaways, and it is only one of one hundred such provocative sessions planned.

Shoptalk will be on the pulse of what retailers and brands need to know to both stay current and get ahead. If you haven’t registered yet, now is the time to pay attention to this event and get yourself and your team signed up to attend before it sells out. Ticket prices increase this Friday March 11.
